My bad. The proper term is "smart balance". See the following as an example:

demo.paytrust.com

It essentially is a way to check your bank balances against your pending e-payments. The service is significant because with it, consumers can not only pay and receive bills at one site, they can also check pending e-payments against bank balances at the same NON-BANK site. This technology is important because if CKFR had it, CKFR would be less susceptible to the SPECTRUM threat. And CKFR stock prices would be less susceptible to SPECTRUM press announcements.

The market knows that consumers don't want to go to one site to pay bills and another to check their bank balances. This is a tremendous market advantage to banks and they know it. But for Paytrust, if one wants to pay bills and check balances today at one site, THEY HAVE TO GO TO A BANK that provides both capabilities. This all-in-one-site capability tends to cause consumers to flock to banks and stay away from non-bank portals. Given this tremendous market advantage, and recent maneuvers by SPECTRUM, it makes sense to offer a "Smart Balance" feature to help make CKFR and stock price less dependent on bank actions.
