Steven W. Banning as President

TORONTO, Feb. 7 /CNW/ - SouthernEra Resources Limited is pleased to
announce that the Board of Directors has named Steven W. Banning as President
and Chief Executive Officer of the Company effective March 1, 2000. Mr.
Banning will succeed Christopher M.H. Jennings, founder of the Company and its
only President since 1992. Dr. Jennings will remain as non-executive Chairman
of the Company.
In making the announcement, Dr. Jennings stated, ``I am pleased to be
turning the management of the Company over to Steve. His diverse mine
operating experience and strong leadership skills will be instrumental in
taking the Company through its next stage of growth and beyond.'
Mr. Banning commented, ``Dr. Jennings and his team have put together an
exceptional portfolio of advanced projects. I am looking forward to leading
the Company through this upcoming period of sustained growth. Although a
near-term focus will be placed on operating and advanced projects, the
Company's long-term growth will continue to come from a balance of exploration
and acquisition.'
Mr. Banning brings to the Company more than 25 years of experience in the
mining business. In addition to his strong mine operations background, he has
held various corporate positions including President and CEO, Vice President
Operations and Vice President Development. His well-rounded experience in
operations, corporate management and finance provides the framework to lead
the SouthernEra team and bring the next generation of mines into production.
The Company and its Board of Directors express their deepest thanks to
Dr. Jennings for his many years of leadership and dedication and look forward
to his continued involvement in the Company's development.
SouthernEra Resources Limited is a diamond mining and exploration company
with operations in South Africa and diamond exploration and development
projects in some of the most prospective areas of the world. In addition, the
Company has entered into negotiations to acquire a controlling interest in a
South African company that owns one of the largest undeveloped platinum group
minerals (PGM) deposits in Africa.
