EMR Microwave Announces Changes
To Board of Directors
FREDERICTON, NEW BRUNSWICK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 7, 2000--EMR Microwave Technology Corporation (CDNX:EMW. - news) is pleased to announce the appointment of Basil Smidt to the Board of Directors effective December 1999.
Mr. Smidt is the Chief Executive Officer of Titaco Projects (Pty) Ltd., a Member of the Executive Committee - Bateman Project Holdings Ltd. (public company JSE), Chairman of Aquafund (Pty)
Ltd. and Director of Bateman Project Holdings Ltd., Bateman Mineral and Industrial Ltd. and Bateman Materials Handling (Pty) Ltd. Mr. Smidt holds a BSE (Civil Engineering) degree and has studied for the MBA (Witwatersrand). His industrial experience in South Africa extends from 1975 to the present and includes many aspects of senior engineering, technology development and management.
Mr. Smidt replaces J.W. Bud Bird who resigned from the Board effective December 1999 to pursue other business interests. Other directors include J. Brian Neill (Chairman), James Tranquilla,
Philip Lapp, Frederick Knight, Nicholas Ediger, and Kenneth Brunk.
Other recent management changes include the resignation of Carl Ash as CFO who has accepted another corporate financial appointment. The Board has appointed J. Brian Neill to act as interim CFO effective January 20, 2000.
At its Annual Meeting held September 20, 1999, the Company appointed J. Brian Neill as CEO, a position formerly held by James Tranquilla who will now assume the position of Chief Operating Officer as well as continuing President. Mr. Neill's increased participation in the operation of the Company signals the Company's readiness to expand its strategic partnerships and commercialize its increasing base of developed technologies.
The Company is continuing to operate with downscaled activities in some areas, notably in petroleum operations, in order to minimize operating costs, however it has maintained a very successful mineral processing development program which has resulted in several new processes ready for pilot demonstration and commercialization.
