RE: FC discussion

Sir Galahad:

Sorry, I'm a bit dense. Are you encouraging more discussion of Fibre Channel related companies? Assuming that is the case, I am largely in agreement with Buck's assessment of the related companies. I know less about Crossroads than the others, but I don't see any FC company being a Gorilla.

Fibre Channel is an ANSI standard. There are very few (perhaps no) patents of any significance of which I am aware for FC products. Ancor holds a patent on Class 1 service, but this seems to be of no importance to the marketplace.

In my mind the discussion quickly moves to a Royalty evaluation, but I would like to hear other opinions on this issue before we proceed.

Can anyone present a case that there is a Gorilla in the FC hardware companies? How about the software companies - Legato or Veritas? I know Brocade is a member of the Project Hunt club, but I don't remember if there are any other FC related companies on the list. Should we wait until the other presenters are ready, or continue with analyzing Buck's subject?

Greg
