SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 7, 2000--

Agreement Strengthens NetApp's Commitment To

Microsoft(R) and SnapManager(TM) for Exchange Customers

Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ:NTAP), the leading provider of network-attached data access and management solutions, today announced it has entered a services agreement with IBM. Under the terms of the contract, Network Appliance and IBM Global Services will together provide support services to customers deploying Network Appliance's SnapManager and NetApp(R) filers in Microsoft Exchange environments.

"IBM Global Services is dedicated to providing customers with technical services and support for Microsoft solutions," said Anne F. Fitzpatrick, business strategist, Enterprise Services for Microsoft Technologies, IBM Global Services. "Now NetApp customers will be able to tap IBM's capabilities and skills to help build their Microsoft Exchange environments."

"IBM is an ideal service provider for Network Appliance(TM) customers, with proven field experience and extensive professional skills to support the Microsoft Exchange environment. This agreement immediately strengthens the value-added support and technical consulting programs for our SnapManager for Exchange and NetApp filers," said Chris Liotta, vice president of customer satisfaction for Network Appliance.

About SnapManager for Exchange

Announced today in a separate press release, Network Appliance's SnapManager for Exchange, unlike other data availability solutions, performs a Snapshot(TM) backup of the Exchange databases without shutting down Exchange services - providing continuous uptime for an online backup. In the event of data corruption, SnapManager empowers administrators to rapidly restore all of the Exchange data in minutes

- as opposed to the hours required to restore data from traditional tape backup solutions.

SnapManager for Exchange backup and recovery is designed to give administrators more options with increased storage space. The Snapshot backups reside on the NetApp filer, which can support up to 20 different Snapshots concurrently with minimal space requirements.

About Network Appliance

Network Appliance, a veteran in network file serving and caching, has been providing data access solutions since 1992. Major corporations and ISPs, including Lycos, Yahoo!, Citicorp Securities, Siemens, Lockheed, Cisco, Motorola and Texas Instruments have deployed NetApp solutions. NetApp's file servers ("filers") and Internet caching solutions (NetCache(TM) appliances) deliver fast, simple, reliable and cost-effective access to network-stored data and enable simultaneous shared file services for UNIX(R), Windows NT(R) and the World Wide Web.

The company pioneered the concept of the "network appliance," an extension of the industry trend toward dedicated, specialized products that perform a single function. Network Appliance filers and NetCache appliances are based on the company's innovative data access software known as Data ONTAP(TM) operating system and standards-compliant hardware.

NetApp is a registered trademark in the U.S. and other countries and Network Appliance, SnapManager, Snapshot, Data ONTAP and NetCache are trademarks of Network Appliance, Inc. All other brands or products are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective holders and should be treated as such.
