PALM SPRINGS, Calif., Feb 7, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Goldman, Sachs &
Co., the leading investment banking firm serving technology companies,
will reiterate its bullish outlook for the technology sector as it
kicks off its 14th Annual Technology Investment Symposium today.

The Symposium is a five-day gathering of the firm's top institutional
and private investor clients and the CEOs of more than 175 leading
Internet, hardware, software, computer services, data networking and
semiconductor companies. This year's event - being held February 7
through 11 at the La Quinta Resort in Palm Springs, California -
features keynote presentations from leading companies including
Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Dell and eBay among others.

The Goldman Sachs Technology Research Team recently published "Issues &
Outlook 2000," articulating the group's Top 10 Technology Themes
reflecting its overall positive view of technology markets for the
coming year.

"Key themes which play to the market momentum created by changing
Internet technologies, standards and architectures are of particular
interest," said Rick Sherlund, Senior Analyst and Managing Director.
"This includes, but is not limited to, those companies addressing the
enormous opportunities in business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce,
Internet infrastructure, and extended customer relationship management
(e-CRM). The themes provide the foundation upon which institutional and
individual investment strategies are built, and will form the basis for
in-depth examination of specific issues and opportunities at the
Symposium," Sherlund added.

Goldman Sachs' Technology Investment Symposium in Palm Springs Widely
recognized as one of the industry's most important forums, the
Symposium provides the opportunity for investors and executive
management of the leading technology companies to communicate and
understand critical issues and opportunities in the fast changing
technology sector.

Keynote addresses by industry luminaries punctuate the agenda
including: Steve Ballmer in his first appearance at an investment forum
as CEO of Microsoft Corporation; Michael Dell of Dell Computer; Carly
Fiorina of Hewlett-Packard; Eric Schmidt of Novell; Paul Otellini of
Intel; Jeff Weitzen of Gateway; Meg Whitman of eBay; and, Ed Zander of
Sun Microsystems.

"The quantity and caliber of participants in the event - hosted by our
Technology Research Group - is a powerful statement of the critical
importance of technology and the Internet in the global equity
markets," said Brad Koenig, Head of the High Technology Group. "It is a
testament to Goldman Sachs' stature, commitment to our clients, and
accomplishments in the arena," he added.

In addition to financial outlook presentations, opportunities for
one-on-one consultation and keynote speeches, attendees will learn the
results of Goldman Sachs' Annual Survey of Fortune 1000 IT Managers.

The survey, recently conducted in conjunction with Harte-Hanks Market
Intelligence, was designed to gain insight into overall demand
patterns, as well as to assess trends within specific segments of the
industry. The results will be presented on Tuesday, February 8 by
Goldman Sachs' star-studded team of technology analysts, including:

Laura Conigliaro: Enterprise Hardware/Technical Software Greg Gould:
Computer Services Gunnar Miller: Semiconductor Capital Equipment Joe
