Hi Tom,
I'm sure that there will be additional applications for the antibiotic. There was an article in the business section of the New York Times that estimated the value of this drug at 200 million a year. Diabetic ulcers is probably an important part of the equation, but should have others. I wonder if it could handle the flesh eating bacteria. Anyway, with all of the bacteria becoming resistant to todays antibiotics, Magainin, as a peptide, will probably never have this problem. Also, though, as a peptide, the drug is non-toxic. The main problem, I believe, is the delivery system, as peptides break down in the body, and may effective in a test tube, but not in the body.
What made you so brave to buy more when the bottom dropped? I've been accumulating, and try to buy on drops. I was depressed when the control for impetigo cured 75% of the cases while the drug cured 76%. It seemed pretty strange, but I've kept the faith. Just bought some more for my younger daughter with the hope that it will help pay for her college tuition in 3 or 4 more years.
I think the excitement from Magainin will come from the squalamine and shark hormones. Magainin has an impressive staff that will be generating loads of great drugs. I think that what excites me the most is the potential - for mankind (and for my account).
I have a whole group of friends who have invested in the stock, as well a number of my family.
By the way, my name is actually shep - shlep was just for fun.
