ENOTS, I think it has to do with the general public's or end-user's mindshare and the battle for it. Warning: rambling explanation follows:

Scientific Atlanta is the name on the box in the residential customer's house so they get mindshare.
The residential customer's MSO is certainly in their face with programming, billing, etc., so of course they get mindshare.
(Mindshare can be good OR bad depending on the perceived service quality OR the ramifications of being considered good or bad.)
If you are a "behind the scenes" vendor or supplier supporting these front line companies and therefore do not have to deal directly with these delicate users, then you will not be afforded such mindshare (with the end users).

In fact, your excellent middleware or services just contributes to the success and visibility of the front line provider because that is all the end user sees and those providers like it that way (when they are successful).

So if you ("behind the scenes" guy) want to please your customers ("front line guys") and make them successful (good business practice) then you sacrifice the mass attention (praise or scorn) you would be looking for.
Success for you must be measured in other terms.
