Greg, Ortel has gone up from the $15 range last fall to 170s before the takeover. Much of the investing in this company was for a takeover possibility. That is why i was in it. Notice the slow growth in revenue while the others in the sector were producing senstational results.

Ortel management decided to lock in the gains since the future growth is not comparable to the SDLI/ETEK/JDSU types.
I had actually read that Ortel was overvalued in comparison to JDSU/SDLI given the existing growth rates.
The other factor is that who wants Ortel. Their management must have realized that it is not an attractive target for potential acquirers and seized upon the Lucent capacity problems as a chance to lock in the Ortel stock gains.

ETEK is the biggest acquisition since Uniphase bought JDSU Fitel---in the industry itself.
Remember that SDLI and JDSU had huge gains (so did ORTEL)in stock price while ETEK lagged considerably behind. So maybe the price paid meant ETEK was undervalued.
