Jim, >Is BRCM still a good buy? Better than Intel right here? I don't know
I don't know either. Just pull up a 1 or 2 year, or 6 month chart of BRCM. It's scary. OK, let's see what they make. From their home page: Broadcom designs, develops and supplies integrated circuits for some of the most significant broadband communications markets, including the markets for cable set-top boxes, cable modems, high-speed office networks, home networking, direct broadcast satellite and terrestrial digital broadcast, and digital subscriber line ("xDSL").
Home and office stuff. That's growing fast, but as fast as the companies that make the components and modules that companies like Cisco, NT, LU use in routers, switches for ATM, SONET, DWDM? That would be companies like PMCS for the chips and JDSU for the fiber and laser stuff. JDSU has come down some because of a buyout they're trying to do. They're still not making profits though. Nasdaq crash could kill them. PMC Sierra actually makes money. Broadcom too. If you made me buy one of these, it would be PMCS, but it's still stratospheric.
