What does Compaq have to gain by offering $400 rebate with
its PC bundles? Does Compaq actually make money for offer this or does it help to "make the sell"?

I think most of these $400 rebate deals required the purchaser to sign up for 3 year with an overpriced ISP to
get the rebate.

Whereas in the Netzero scenario, the customer will get
free access to the Internet without a 3 year deal.
It will still help Compaq "make the sell".

Make sense?

I currently use a local ISP provider. Unlimited access for
$14.95/month. The problem is when I'm on the road it is
a long distance call to connect. Netzero comes in handy.
Besides, I think Compaq has a % stake in Netzero ... if I'm not mistaken.
