HOM launches drug therapy software online

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 7 (dbusiness.com) -- Health Outcomes Management Inc. is using the application service provider (ASP) model to trim distribution costs.

The medical consultancy and software developer has introduced Critical Care Tables, an Internet-accessible program that produces infusion rate sheets. These are calculations used by critical care nurses and pharmacists to determine pump settings for intravenous drugs.

The math traditionally is completed manually, and health care professionals must recalculate when the treatment or patient condition changes.

"For these types of applications, which are very niche-oriented, the distribution costs are relatively high," said Peter Zugschwert, president of Health Outcomes Management Inc. (OTC BB: HOMI).

The ASP model refers to companies that lease software over the Internet. Zugschwert said his company plans to release addition applications online but would not provide specifics.

Health Outcomes Management specializes in software for pharmaceutical care, long-term (nursing home) care and pharmacokinetics, which helps pharmacists determine the elements to add to a particular medicine.

The stock was trading Monday at 18 cents, up 6 cents or 50 percent.
