Monday Feb 7 2000
Ms. Pam Whitworth reports
Trading activity on the Canadian Venture Exchange continued to break records as the recent rise in gold
prices complemented the rally in tech juniors.
Market activity on the CDNX climbed to new levels today with 125 million shares worth $164-million
traded. A record number of 37,987 transactions was also reached today.
The rise in the price of gold spurred interest in CDNX mineral exploration companies as four of today's
top five traders by volume are in the mining sector. Savanna Resources led all issues with a volume of
7.5 million shares, climbing four cents to close at eight cents. Savanna Resources was followed by: Inlet
Resources, up one cent to 21 cents on 5.9 million shares; Multiplex Technologies was down 10 cents to
28 cents on 4.1 million shares; ITL Capital was up two cents to 20 cents; and Mandorin Goldfields was up 12 cents to 28 cents.
The CDNX Index closed at 3134.82, up 78.55 points on the day and up 34 per cent during the year.
