<<Could this mean that Schmidt is going to focus on liberating the creativity of the engineering workforce at Novell?>>

I think he has already done that to some extent with his Ecolab theme, and its employee rewards system for creating ideas. But I agree, this gives him additional freedoms to focus better on the future of the "Net" and Novell.

<<Parallels to what Gates is doing?>>

Well, sort of like what Bill is doing, but Eric is following his own organizational structure and timing, and its one that will "win" at becoming dominant in the new internet domain (the so called internet II). Gates continues to chase after every internet theme, whether it be cable, streaming, digital appliance software, etc. One thing nice about Eric is he sticks to Novell's intrinsic software strength, focus and builds on it as it interfaces with the internet (eCommerce, caching, wireless?). This will lead them into these new niches with the quality and vision to capture the internet II prize -- marketshare.

All the pieces of the puzzle continue to fall into place. This price of this stock is just warming up IMHO. Time to start moving up that hockey stick. =;-)

Oh, BTW here is some field reporting on someone at one of MSFT's W2K training shows in New Orleans. Enjoy!

OT: Microsoft Tech Week

This is my 2nd attempt to post this. I am at tech week here in New Orleans. They should have said Tech Weak. Microsoft is not ready with AD and they appear to be very disorganized. They have been caught with their pants down. They are attempting to buy time by saying that six to nine months planning are required plus pilot labs. They do not have any big examples and they themselves do not understand MAD. The microsoft employees are confused and are now calling Novell a legacy product. Hopefully tomorrows Novell Ichain announcements will knock them further out of wack. Can you say train wreck?
