Electric Utility Fuels. Natural gas is projected to maintain its price advantage over residual fuel oil as a fuel input for electric utility generation throughout the
forecast period (Figure 15 and Table 4). For those that can get it, natural gas will have a very wide price advantage throughout this heating season. Gas's price boon
is projected to be sustained throughout most of the year. However, the advantage for gas is expected to narrow toward the end of the year as gas prices climb
during the heating season. The narrowing is expected to continue even further into next year, as crude oil prices are projected to decline while gas prices rise over the
same period.
