There were definitely quality problems with the early batches of 7110. It's that shut-off thing you described. It seems to be software-based, so the fix works. I hope the later batches are OK. I disagree on the 5110, though - it had early problems, but the volume units at least in Europe and USA have good quality. I'm not sure about what's going on in Asia - it seems that the quality control of the factories there may not be as good as in Texas or Hungary. Some of Nokia's problem phones sold in Europe have been exported from Asia.

It's a relative problem; Nokia used to have better quality than industry average, but that gap may have vanished during the latest rush to get new phones out. Something to worry about, because earlier market share gains were partially based on noticeably better quality.
