Company Press Release

HighwayMaster to Install 28,200 Additional Units for SBC Communications,
Inc.

RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 8, 2000--HighwayMaster Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:HWYM - news), the leading provider of wireless
voice and data communications services to the commercial trucking and service vehicle industries, today announced that it has been chosen to provide Ameritech and
other member companies of SBC Communications, Inc. (NYSE:SBC - news) over 28,000 HighwayMaster Series 5005S intelligent mobile units. The installation,
which will occur throughout 2000, also includes enhanced proprietary software and services.

The HighwayMaster Series 5005S provides service vehicle fleets with event-based location tracking, mobile voice communication, and a location-based panic alarm
device using both terrestrial-based wireless communications capabilities and the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite network. The system increases the
effective utilization of service fleets, while providing a safer work environment for service technicians. Management expects that this installation will create one of the
largest GPS-based service fleet management systems in the United States.

''This order will almost triple, to over 43,000, the number of mobile units we will have installed at various SBC companies,'' said Jana Bell, HighwayMaster's
president and chief executive officer. ''We believe that the additional order from SBC indicates that HighwayMaster's patented mobile technology is a solution long
needed by service fleets to maximize efficiency and provide better customer service.''

HighwayMaster provides intelligent wireless mobile communications, fleet management and mobile asset-tracking solutions to the commercial trucking and service
vehicle industries. Its technology, currently covered by 29 issued U.S. patents and additional U.S. and international patents pending, combines voice and data with
Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite vehicle-location capabilities to offer a seamless mobile communications system. The enhanced cellular network utilizes the
systems of more than 70 cellular providers in the U.S. and Canada offering coverage in essentially all of the available U.S. markets and A-side markets in Canada.
The company's mobile asset product, TrackWare(TM), combines the technologies of GPS and control channel messaging to track trailers and other mobile assets.
