As far as i understand the backbone of the internet (45 Mbps by ISPs) has nothing to do
with your client/server modem connection. He can't be completely ignorant, can he?
What is it that I don't understand ?

He may be talking about the fact that having a 56K modem does not mean you'll always get 56K speed if the backbone can't support all the nodes, but, that would affect ANY 56K design, including ROK's; he was probably thinking out loud and not thinking about what he was saying, etc. It doesn't seem like it is relevent, but then, since nobody knows what he was talking about, we'll have to wait and see if it is a new factor or a mistake.
