Christie's, Sotheby's and e-Bay Executives Appointed to Senior Management Team of the Auction Channel.com
NEW YORK, LONDON AND LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 8, 2000--Ron Chaimowitz, Chief Executive Officer of The Auction Channel, a wholly owned subsidiary of Brilliant Digital Entertainment, Inc. (AMEX: BDE - news), announced today the appointment of four senior executives to his New York management team. Catherine Elkies, Executive Vice President, Robert Goff, Vice President of Content and Community, Tiffany Dubin, Vice President of Marketing, and Elyse Luray Marx, Vice President of Collectibles.
Mr. Chaimowitz commented, ''We believe these key additions to The Auction Channel team will provide the intelligence and experience to launch exciting auction entertainment programming as well as have a strong impact on the entire booming collecting industry. This new team of auction and entertainment industry executives provides extensive auction, television, Internet and media know-how that will propel The Auction Channel to a leadership position in the online auction and interactive television industries.''
Catherine Elkies, Executive Vice President, will direct global sales and market development. She has over a decade of experience in the auction industry, most recently serving as President of Christie's East and previously as managing director of Christie's Los Angeles. During her 12-year tenure with Christie's, Ms. Elkies successfully expanded a regional office into Christie's West Coast headquarters and directed the U.S. collectibles market. She achieved record sales at Christies East and formed co-branding partnerships with People Magazine, New York Magazine, Absolut, Bombay and Vera Wang, among others. She is an auctioneer and has presided over such notable sales as Eric Clapton and Marilyn Monroe.
Robert Goff, Vice President for Content and Community, will oversee the site's editorial, web chats, price guides, as well as co-branding opportunities on the site. Prior to joining The Auction Channel, Mr. Goff was a key strategist behind eBay Great Collections. He formerly held marketing and business development positions with eBay, during which he successfully initiated development deals with ABE Books, eArtGroup.com, prominent art and collectibles dealers, and an advertising and content relationship with Art & Auction Magazine. Mr. Goff was also one of eBay's principal liaisons with Butterfield & Butterfield. Prior to working for eBay, he was the collecting and auction industry writer for Forbes magazine.
Tiffany Dubin, Vice President of Marketing, will be responsible for all the visual, strategic and creative aspects of the brand development. As the founder and former director of Sotheby's Fashion Department, Ms. Dubin was responsible for launching fashion-based theme sales that focused public interest in popular new collecting categories including wearable fashion, fashion photography, illustrations and accessories. Many observers credit these sales with the skyrocketing interest in the vintage market. Ms. Dubin was also responsible for the first catalogue advertising and luxury co-branding relationships for Sotheby's. She is co-author of a forthcoming book from Harper Collins, Vintage Chic, due out in September.
Elyse Luray Marx, Vice President of Collectibles, will oversee the expansion of the collectibles market and new category development. Previously, Ms. Luray Marx worked for Christie's for over ten years. As Director of the Collectibles Department at Christie's in New York, she was responsible for overseeing all areas within the department including sports, film, rock and roll and television memorabilia, animation art, toys, posters and special collections. She was instrumental in developing new markets for Christie's East in New York, most recently establishing the Arms and Armor, Wine, and the Western Memorabilia Departments. She was also an auctioneer at Christie's. Ms. Luray Marx has appraised or sold personal property for numerous celebrities and corporations including Chuck Jones, the NBA, Fox, Warner Bros, Universal and other major studios. She also catalogues and lectures about the collectibles market, and has appeared on the Today Show, CNN, ABC, CNBC, the Antique Road Show and various other programs.
Kevin Bermeister, Brilliant Digital's President commented, ''We are very pleased with the strong group of senior executives Ron has recruited and believe it is a powerful sign of the promising direction The Auction Channel is taking to be attracting such proven and experienced professionals.''
