Michael M: only 3 or 4 companies can pay for NN. We have toÿ stick with the one-stop-shopping marketing theme that CSCO initiated 4 years ago. You need to be able to offer IP+ATM+Wireless+Fiberoptic/optical.
The candidates are NT,CSCO,ALA,SIEM,LU,+/-ERICY,doubt TLBS. Can$75 I think is very cheap for NN, considering what NNÿ can do for the buying co: catapult upwards at sonic speed .
I think that the only serious bidder now is ALA. It is possible that NT and CSCO and LU are staying out of this because a) they are waiting to see if ALA will make an offer. b) they know that as long as none of them ( NT,CSCO & LU )ÿ ÿÿ make an offer, the precarious balance between the three ÿ will be maintained, and they'll have more time to slug itÿ ÿ out.
The dark horse is CSCO. CSCO wants to get into the telco biz and so far they have zilch. They need a good ATM badly; and wireless.
CSCO may wait until ALA does DD and figures out what is a good price to pay, then they will come out with a bigger offer .ÿ That saves them a lot of leg work. (Of course if CSCO makes an offer, it will be interesting to see what NT and LU will do ).

ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ Canadian $75 is a credible number. A couple of great quarters might bring substantially more but NOT if valuations throughout the sector take a hit.ÿ
ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ Even with a nice premium over today's price, NN can be taken out practically for free in terms of "real" money.
ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ I wonder if our short list of potential suitors is too short. Could an offer come from a company outside the three or four we seem to concentrate on here?
