Don't do this around any other exposed silver! Silver has a special affinity for sulfur compounds, and if you do this on half your goodies with the other half sitting in the foul-smelling air, all you're doing is move the sulfides around.
Do this trick in a well-ventilated room AWAY from your other silver items.
