"Tibco Software Inc. is probably the biggest software company you've never heard of. But not for long."
Can't wait for it to catch on.. Meanwhile, Ranadive was busy today --
TIBCO Software CEO Talks About the Future of Internet Computing Ranadive Delivers Keynote at mcast 2000 About Shift to Distributed Computing SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Vivek Ranadive, Chairman and CEO of TIBCO Software Inc. (Nasdaq: TIBX), opened the IPMI mcast 2000 show today by predicting a world of real-time information delivery based on IP multicasting, a technology that allows information to be "broadcast" over the Internet in a highly efficient manner. (A webcast of the speech will be available on the mcast 2000 website at stardust.com.) Ranadive stated he sees a future in which billions of "multicast units," such as cell phones, pagers, cars, refrigerators, etc., are tied into vast value webs of information exchange. As such, this information exchange in the mulitcast-enabled future will be dynamic and complex. No longer will information be locked in database "silos," but instead, it will be distributed freely. Whenever information changes, the new data will be published out to all interested parties, via multicast software. The world will become a virtual trading floor, with information being the "stock" of choice. Because of this fundamental change, Ranadive sees the world becoming increasingly customer-centric. Companies that do not utilize and deliver real-time information, internally and externally, will miss out on the staggering opportunities that will result from dynamic Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Consumer (B2C) e-commerce. As an example of this dynamic commerce environment, Ranadive cited the synchronization of business processes, which will remove friction from the economy. When a customer orders a digital subscriber line (DSL) line, no longer will it take several people and days, if not weeks to process the order. Instead, through multicast, provisioning will be done in real-time, resulting in greater service to the end user. As soon as a customer service representative enters an order for DSL, the necessary information is sent to all information technology systems, thereby automatically activating the DSL. Ranadive said that in this new world of personalized information delivery, IP multicasting is the only model that can support the ever-increasing number of content producers and subscribers. This need is the catalyst behind TIBCO's recent announcements that Cisco has licensed TIBCO products to embed in its entire networking product line and that Pragmatic General Multicast (PGM), the multicast standard co-developed by TIBCO and Cisco, is now open source. The announcements mean developers can start utilizing the PGM standard that is now embedded in all Cisco networking products to more efficiently distribute information. Ranadive closed by saying that only as more and more programs are written for and utilize PGM can the full potential of the information revolution be realized.
