( BW)(SYQT) SyQuest Technology Announces Price Cut of 40% on EZ135 Removable Cartridge Hard Drive; Move to Increase Installed Based and Widen Knowledge of Technology

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 13, 1996--SyQuest
Technology (NASDAQ: SYQT), world leader in removable cartridge hard
drives, today announced an immediate reduction on the suggested
retail price of its popular EZ135(tm) drive to $119.95.

Previously EZ135 suggested retail prices were $199 for the SCSI
configuration, and $229 for the Parallel Port configuration.

"We have taken this aggressive step because SyQuest intends to
expand its installed base among computer users who want the highest
performance removable storage," said Ron Brown, vice president of
marketing. "This is a proactive investment to introduce prospective
new customers to the superior performance of removable cartridge hard
drive storage over alternative removable media technologies, worth
the increased cost to the company.

"There is an ever-increasing demand for expanded data storage and
high-speed file management among users of desktop and notebook
computers in applications like desktop publishing, small
business/home office management, multimedia and Internet information
management," continued Brown. "SyQuest is the world's leading
supplier of removable cartridge hard drives and we firmly intend not
only to maintain that lead, but to increase our position."

The EZ family of products, including the recently announced
EZFlyer(tm) 230, will be supported this summer with a new marketing
campaign including trade and consumer advertising.

First in the SyQuest EZ Family, the award-winning EZ135 has found
popular applications for easily accessible, secondary storage for
high-performance PC and Mac users. Because it is a hard drive, the
EZ135 has the fastest access time of any removable cartridge storage
product, over twice that of competing technologies like high-density
floppies or magneto-optical storage.

EZ135 configurations include internal enhanced IDE, and external
SCSI and Parallel Port versions. The price reduction applies to all
configurations. The recently announced EZFlyer 230 is backward
compatible with the EZ135 drive, and can read, write and format the
135MB cartridges from the large installed base of the popular EZ135
drive system. This family compatibility affords the user a
convenient upgrade path as user applications increase capacity
demands.

The EZ135 is available now through leading retailers including
Best Buy, CompUSA, Computer City, Egghead, Fry's and Micro Center, as
well as commercial distributors and mail order outlets.

Perhaps Syquest is doing this "sale" to reduce inventories of a "lost cause" -- as earlier suggested in another post -- and/or to re-establish its "good standing" with NASDAQ by picking up some quick cash assets.

[Maybe NEC will cancel its Iomega agreement and place an order with Syquest for 20,000 EZ135 units for delivery next month! ;) ]
