INDIAN WELLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 7, 2000 via NewsEdge Corporation -
Handhelds are organizers, right? We use them to remember appointments, birthdays and anniversaries. Well, thanks to Kodak, you can use your Palm Organizer to take pictures, too.
Owners of Palm III and VII series handheld devices can simply connect Eastman Kodak Company's new PalmPix Camera to their organizer to take and transfer digital pictures. Unveiled today at Demo 2000, PalmPix is a innovative extension to Palm organizers, turning them into easy-to-use digital cameras.
"Now, not only can you manage your schedule and contact information, you can capture and share pictures with your Palm organizer." said Phil Gerskovich, vice president, Eastman Kodak Company, and chief operating officer, Digital & Applied Imaging. "PalmPix lets you capture images of important items and events, like notes from a conference room board, business associates, or trade shows. It's an easy way to transform your Palm organizer into a digital camera."
With the announcement of the PalmPix camera, Kodak is extending the digital capture category, one of the company's strategic goals.
The Kodak PalmPix camera enables users to take pictures and to transfer them to their desktop through the device's HotSync cradle. Pictures are viewed on the Palm's LCD screen (2.3- x 2.3-inches) as grayscale images. Once on the computer desktop, the pictures are stored as standard jpeg or bitmap files. They can be accessed as full-color VGA (640 x 480) pictures then manipulated, emailed, printed and saved.
The PalmPix camera is small and ultra-lightweight (1.5 ounces); so it can be easily carried anywhere a Palm goes. The camera features a fixed focus lens, 2X digital zoom and self-timer. Until images are transferred to a computer, they are stored in the Palm organizer, each VGA file requiring approximately 100K of memory
PalmPix is compatible with Palm III, IIIe and IIIx, IBM Workpad, Palm VII platform, and TRGpro. Included in the box are two Kodak AAA alkaline batteries, quick setup and user guide, and PalmPix software, Windows 95, 98 and NT 4.0 Installer, Presto! Mr. Photo-- for editing, sharing and storing photos creatively-- and Image Carousel software-- a slide show screen saver and wallpaper utility. Custom carrying cases and rechargeable AAA batteries are available separately.
The Kodak PalmPix camera will be available for $179, along with PalmPix accessories, online at www.kodak.com/go/shop and at major computer retailers early in the second quarter.
