TELLABS ANNOUNCES INTEGRATED MARTISDXXR AND FOCUSTM SOLUTION
Integrated Solution Provides Access and Transport Network Management
Tools from Single Desktop

Lisle, Ill. - Tellabs today announced a solution that integrates the
MartisDXX Manager and FOCUS NM2100 network management systems.
MartisDXX/FOCUS Connector provides an integrated management solution
that enables service providers to operate the full set of MartisDXX
managed access and FOCUS SDH and DWDM transport and access network
elements from a single network management workstation.

This integrated network management approach enables operators to reduce
operational costs by optimizing network resources and simplifying
network planning. It also provides operators new revenue opportunities,
because they can create new and more reliable services through automated
provisioning and increased network availability.

"We are excited to offer this solution to our existing and new customers
for business services and mobile applications," said Brian J. Jackman,
president of Global Systems and Technology at Tellabs. "Our integrated
management solution is the only one available that combines managed
access and managed transport capabilities, which give service providers
clear competitive advantages."

MartisDXX managed access and FOCUS SDH and DWDM products provide an
optimal solution for both access and transport network applications. The
two platforms support managed access speeds ranging from 1.2 kilobits
per second to 155 megabits per second (STM-1), and transmission speeds
up to 2.5 gigabits per second (STM-16) in the backbone. The integrated
management solution provides cross-connect network elements with n x 64
kbps or 2 Mbps granularities, enabling operators to efficiently groom
traffic and reduce transmission costs. Dynamic capacity allocation in
the backbone minimizes the need for a full STM-1 configured from one
location to another.

Customers currently are testing the solution, which is expected to be
commercially available in the second quarter of 2000.
Tellabs designs, manufactures, markets and services data, voice and
video transport, switching/routing and network access systems. The
company's products are used worldwide by the providers of communications
services. Tellabs stock is listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market (TLAB).
