chalu, Please read a post carefully before you pop your cork. I was talking about air planes, not helos. You know, the Air Force. Helos are a completely different animal. They belong to the Air Cavalry, who until the last few decades, were ground pounders. They did face the enemy on a personal basis and have my total admiration. The pilots of jet aircraft after the first 6-9 months, were not engaged in "dog fight" type combat. They were shot down by SAMs. That is, in itself, tragic, but still not the front lines per military description. Literally, my definition was correct. Naval battles at sea kill many good, and brave, men which stresses me as much, or more, than any other person but, it is not called the "front lines". A front line is much like a line drawn in the dirt with the opposing forces on each side of that, very real, line on the tactical maps. I was not putting down any branch of the service, just answering your question in a technical manner. If you want to discuss something, take that chip off your shoulder.
Just a side note, I was infantry, so am a bit biased, and protective of the role of the dogfaces in combat. --haqi |
