Clearly Sierra is not OCtel's future. Herin lies the problem. Sierra is Octel's "bread and butter" so to speak, and represents the majority of Octel installations (at least the big ones). Octel has not given any indication that there is an upgrade path for Sierra. From what I understand, IMA is a complete forklift upgrade. This will not go over well with Octel customers. Maybe they will provide a path, but even their existing VM products have upgrade discontinuities.

Sounds like you have been doing well with your Octel investment strategy. You hve illustrated an important point. Namely, there is a lot more to investing than "who has the best technology". If I told you my favorite VM companies you'd laugh because of the value of their stocks (or lack of value I should say). Oh well, I am an engineer, and when evaluating companies, I tend to focus on the technical merits. Fortunately, I do understand enough of the business side, to not make foolish technology investments. I tend to look for companies whose stock has taken a beating, but who have new and promising products/technology. Octel certainly meets first, the jury's still out on the technology.
