Sorry to post this again, but I didn't finish my thoughts here in time. Here it is again with some further thoughts.

Here is one of my posts from awhile ago that I think is good one to re-post. Ethernet is still very healthy with 10GB being pushed. It is going to take a pretty powerful FC blow torch to blast thru the protective wall around the ethernet market. But someday I think Fibre Channel just might get there. It will be fun to look at the progress in 1 to 2 years from now.

I think this part is the most significant indicator to look at, while thinking about the whole internet becoming storage centric. It will be interesting to see if eventually ethernet mutates and merges somehow with Fibre Channel.

>>"Fibre Channel's use in both networks and storage provides a price savings due to economies of scale associated with larger volumes. Users can expect their most cost-effective, highest-performance solutions to be built using Fibre Channel."<<

Since the future spells much higher computing performance for the average consumer, and most computing will be done thru ASPs on server farms, and that is what Fibre Channel is geared towards, I would think this would mean Fibre Channel as a breed of technology will become even more powerful as time progresses.

It is possible that the trend to move towards optical networks, that is feeding the buying frenzy of optical stocks, will then power up the trend in Fibre Channel technology because of the resulting growth of ASPs and storage centric networks; this could result in a buying frenzy (eventually) of Fibre Channel companies and integrating them into the optical SAN giants that would come out of say a merger between EMC & Oracle with a buy out of Lucent, Nortel or Cisco buying up MTI, or Sunw. Just some thinking out loud here about what the future might bring.
