Bennett released

Two years ago, Edgar Bennett was regarded as the answer to the Bears' running back question, as the team signed him in free agency. But with the emergence of 1998 draft pick Curtis Enis, Bennett was deemed expendable, and on Feb. 7, the Bears released the veteran runner. Bennett led the Bears with 611 yards on the ground in 1998, but gained just 28 yards on six carries last season, starting only two games. This year's free agency signing period begins on Friday, Feb. 11.
