Robert:For conventional PCS handset applications, the AWD 1900 pre-amp driver MMIC is meant to mate with a PA having approximately 25 dB of gain. Using the CLTK Trinity DX device it is possible to use a less powerful (lower current) and cheaper driver than the AWD 1900. The AWD 1900 however has a dual switchable output which indicates that for low power handset transmissions, the main PA could be bypassed and turned off......allowing the AWD1900 to be used as a low power PA thus conserving battery life. IMHO its a good idea and CLTK should develop a PA with a high/low power mode. Low power modes will be used within at- home/in-building microcells and with high gain antenna PCS cells. The AWD 1900 by itself is not very useful: I think it was developed to mate with the dual band AWT919D. Togethor these chips would be used in a dual band phone intended for users that want to have the flexibilty of using 800 MHz AMPS cellular systems and 1900 MHz CDMA.....which could be a comparitively small market niche. ///J-D////
