Hello Paul,

I'm reading through all of the announcements, and talking with various contacts about them. This is a pretty good set of press releases and I have to say that I am impressed by the *words* at a minimum ...

In this eGuide release, the most impressive quote seems to come from Dave Shirk:

"Success in the Net economy means learning how to establish and interact
in digital communities," said Dave Shirk, Novell senior vice president for
product management. "Novell eGuide helps those customers build and fully
participate in those communities by fostering quick and efficient
communication."

This is a radical turn from some of the internal arguments that went on for quite a while. It's funny that at one point about a year ago, I was told to "shut-up" about communities ... now they have realized that it *is* about communities ... I'm glad to see this as it's a major hurdle to cross in developing the architecture. Now if they can grasp the concepts of "distributed" communities instead of centralized communities. I believe that the real power of directories will be realized when we have "Personal Directories" on our desktops ... and these form a whole new perspective of community.

Other words from various people inside and outside of Novel seem to indicate that they are really positive about the reorganization ... a good thing. And that the new ZEN products are pretty cool ... valuable ... and that the engineers really did a great job (as usual) of designing and implementing the products.

I *am* still getting strange reactions about iChain though ... people seem a little more hesitant to talk about it and when I drill with questions about features and functions I seem to get some general "public" statements ... it makes me question if they have truly started to implement solutions using it yet.

The curious thing is that the market isn't reacting to these announcements ... I was expecting more ...
