Wildstar, OT:

One of my rules of investing is to not invest in any company with any large real or potential liability. That means things like no huge debt load, no big unfunded pension liability, no crucial patents in dispute, etc. I've had to bend that rule re option overhangs, because all the techs do it. With MO, a judge/legislator/regulator may make them responsible for the health effects of their products. This may happen in 40 years, or tomorrow. On the day that happens, the company is bankrupt. It's a bottomless pit of risk, it doesn't matter how much profits they're making, or how much cash on hand they have. Why take that risk, when there are other good companies to invest in, selling at single-digit PEs and steady (not spectacular) growth rates?

Or maybe my attitude comes from all the times I'll prescribed home oxygen therapy to former smokers.
