Paul, Re: "Intel should be introducing the ITanium around that time, and if Intel's customers start to ship ITanium systems BEFORE the UltraSparc III's ship, then major EGG-ON-FACE for Sun.
My guess is that UltraSparc III will not be competitive in the long run - SUN is expecting only 600 MHz."
The only thing is that they might not design for cycle time, with a long pipeline as Scumbria likes. Maybe they prefer a short pipeline, longer cycle time, but more work, or logic done per cycle. Looks like IBM and Apple lean that way.
We should start to see some Itanium benchmarks, to put up against Sun's, or do they not come out until the product is released? Do you know, or maybe Elmer, our benchmark champion, what are the "rules" about coming out with them on new products.
