Volatility

Seems to be the arbitrage still going on. Mannesmann will be taken out of the Dax Index when the merger becomes unconditional, I believe, so Mannesmann has been dropping and the arbs are going long Mannesmann and still shorting Vodafone. Further, hold on to you seatbelts, when the merger is declared by Vodafone to be unconditional, this week according to reports, many index funds will then have their first opportunity to buy into the new company. So expect plenty of volatility especially near the close of the FTSE when this announcement is made.

On another note, there is a report Ntt will not bid for Orange. Since they are solely Japan mobile and want to expand could it be they will make a play for Vodafone? Or how about Att once their wireless tracking stock comes to market estimated to go at $80 billion dollars? Or how about Att-Bt making a Vodafone play and splitting the assets between them or merging first and then going after Vodafone? Or what about SBC?

I may be wishfully dreaming about this but these thoughts do pass through my mind. Any comments?
