It's not correct genetically, but in some cultures it's correct socially. I've read of some cultures that believe that the man that has intercourse the most frequently with the woman will be the father. In our own culture, it's widely believed that a woman will be more likely to reproduce with the man she loves. People believe what they want to believe.

In a lot of cultures, the father doesn't really matter, it's the maternal uncle who is the important male in the child's life, and if there is no maternal uncle, then the closest male on the maternal side. Humans have lots of different ways of doing things.
