Nortel's OC-192 makes the news:
DWDM-Long Haul Terrestrial Market Grew 21% in 3Q99 According to Dell'Oro Group; Lucent and Nortel Continue to Dominate the DWDM Market PORTOLA VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 2000--The DWDM-Long Haul Terrestrial Market Grew 21% ($981 M) in 3Q99 with Lucent and Nortel taking the lead according to a Dell'Oro Group Report published earlier this month. Lucent continued to have success with the WaveStar 40G holding 41% market share. Nortel took a close second with the S/DMS Transport Node holding 33% of the market.
The DWDM Long Haul Terrestrial Market, through 3Q99 has been largely comprised of OC-48 capacity multiplexers with 80% of the wavelength shipments being OC-48. However, the high user demand for OC-192 is bolstering OC-192 wavelength growth to twice the rate of OC-48.
Until 3Q99, Nortel was the only manufacturer with widespread availability of OC-192 DWDM. During 4Q99 additional manufacturers began selling their OC-192 DWDM products (e.g. Lucent's 400G, Alcatel's 1640 DADM), and we expect OC-192 growth to accelerate during 2000.
