What is driving the acceptance of fixed wireless (from a technical perspective)? Obviously there is a market for fixed wireless as a solution to the last mile bottleneck. But what technological innovations over the last five years have occurred that make fixed wireless reliable and allow these services to deliver a high quality of service? DSPs, new modulation techniques, cheaper equipment from more competition???

I have noticed the tremendous number of startups in the fixed broadband wireless equipment market and would like to evaluate them from a quasi-technical standpoint to determine which would be the best investments.
