Why would you buy an IA64 processor and run IA32 code on it? The IA32 Intel processors will run IA32 code faster than IA64 Intel processors or anything from AMD (or Transmeta <g>). Intel are producing the IA64 line for the server market - to go after Sun's customers. That is the whole point of the chip. The IA32 will coexist. IA64 will run 64 bit code like the 64 bit Linux and 64 bit Windows that have both already been announced to be available when the Itanium is released.
