Shalom,

I will print out your comments from both posts and spend some time in the word before I respond again on this issue.

I would give a quick response to a general situation that you mentioned regarding relationship with God and repentance. I think this is a scriptural attitude -- cannot post all the references now.

Each of us who belong to Christ had a time in our lives which we repented from a life of sin to serve Jesus. This was both a change of orientation and a change of heart.

Apart from this each one of us repents, as often as needs be, of sins that we commit, even while we live for Him. As Christians our sins grieve God but our relationship with Him continues -- I think this is indicated in 1 John.

There is a point beyond which, however, I believe that we may harden our hearts to His voice and not repent repeatedly so as to put asunder our relationship with God. I cannot tell you exactly when that point is reached. I would not seek to put any limits on the mercy of God and be reproved by Him. Each of us needs to continually look to our own hearts. My enouragement from Jesus Himself is to show mercy to others and to forgive others -- His promises and warnings concerning this are clear. What God does about those that haven't heard is up to God. Romans speaks to this issue. My duty concerns those I can give an oppty to hear.

I will post more concerning what has been termed the unpardonable sin when I've had more time to study. I do appreciate your discussion and steve's, also. I'm just trying to read His word in context. If either you or steve can somehow demonstrate to me that in the parallel passage in Matt. Jesus was not talking to the Pharisees any longer then you may convince me the meaning is different. Right now, I'm convinvced He was talking to the Pharisees.

Do you believe that both passages refer to the same event?
