By Uday Lal Pai-India Correspondent

[February 10, 2000-MUMBAI] Leading IT education and software corporation Aptech Ltd has launched a comprehensive educational portal.

The site, which offers both IT and non-IT courses, can be accessed at aptechonlinevarsity.com.

Aptech, which has over 1400 centers in 28 countries, expects 2 million monthly pageviews by year-end, said executive director Promod Khera. "We have worked on the portal for over six months and are extremely delighted with the outcome," he said.

Khera said that students can register online and pay the course fees through bank checks, or at the Aptech training centers until payments on the Net becomes a regular affair in India.

Students and corporates will be able to access a variety of courses in IT, management, personality development and other areas.

Aptech Online head R. Krishnan said that plans were on to host the virtual campus on multiple servers to serve the needs of a worldwide audience. "We have no doubt Aptech will extend its already established leadership position in instructor-led training on to the exciting world on the Net," he said.

Aptech also plans to tie up with testing agencies. All the courses developed by Aptech are based on a methodology called AMEDA (Aptech Multi-modal Educational Development Application).

This method uniquely combines all the various multimedia areas to ensure media-rich engaging content and high learning effectiveness, according to the company.

The online learning market worldwide is expected to exceed US$10 billion by 2002
