Re...

Back to Novell could someone explain to me what new technology is included in IChain? Is there a demo site
showcasing and explaining the technology for non-techies?

Now that is a very good question. I have to tell you that I am not sure exactly what I-Chain looks like and I have read some stuff on it. If I would have to guess I would think it is a mixture of the TAO (federated directory) technology, DIRXML, some DigitalMe, and eDirectory. But that is just a guess.

What scares me is that if people like me are not sure what I-Chain is and how it works, what hope does the average industry observer have in seeing the value of I-Chain? Worse yet, totally forget about the CIO understanding the concept. Although she might grasp the theoretical business value, she will likely not believe that I-Chain is practical or possible and therefor she will dismiss it. The symptom will be when she quietly nods her head in agreement during Novell's presentation to her. Her internal thoughts are "What the hell are they talking about and whats next on my daily agenda?".

Steve Adams sent out a message in phoenix that all products or technologies coming from Novell must clearly fit into Novell's technology blueprint (that being the Network Software Services that support "The NET"). He also gave us the impression that any Novell technology, product, concept must have a clearly understood Business Value that a CIO can easily grasp OR it does not get released to the public.

Well I think Steve will have to send his marketing teams into a locked hotel room, slide pizza and drinks under the door and tell them not to come out until they can clearly define what I-Chain is, how it works, and CLEAR examples of the business value. The way I-Chain sits now - I personally think this packaged concept will be shelved in the industry's collective mind under "Not exactly sure what Novell is talking about - must not be important YET".

Dont think I answered your question Jim, cause I couldnt. That was just my humble thoughts.
