TORONTO, Feb. 10 /CNW/ - Advantex Marketing International Inc. announced today that it has signed a letter of intent with Air Canada to launch an online shopping portal, through which the more than 3,800,000 Air Canada Aeroplan members can earn Aeroplan Miles on their online purchases from participating e-merchants.

The Aeroplan shopping portal will be one of the most important online buying consortiums in Canada. Advantex will earn income on all sales made by participating e-retailers to Aeroplan members through the Aeroplan shopping portal. Lise Fournel, Senior Vice President, Commercial, Air Canada stated, "We chose Advantex to be our partner on this important initiative because of their successful track record in developing effective loyalty marketing programs and their prior experience with awarding Aeroplan Miles. The Aeroplan shopping portal will support Air Canada's online services which have recently won the Internet World Canada Impact Award 2000. The portal will enhance our frequent flyer program, fostering a stronger relationship between Air Canada and our customers by giving them an exciting new opportunity to accelerate the earning of additional Aeroplan Miles." Under the proposed arrangement, Advantex will be responsible for managing e-merchant participation, and for developing and implementing the Aeroplan shopping portal. It is expected that a definitive agreement will be executed within 60 days. Aeroplan is Canada's largest and fastest growing frequent flyer program, with over 50 partnerships in the hotel, car rental, financial services and telecommunication sectors.
