This could all be related to a potential takeover. If you were a company interested in acquiring THQ and you saw that 1/3 of the stock was short, you would be unlikely to make an offer. What would have happened if somebody made an offer of, say, $50.00/share while 1/3 of the shares were short. This would start an enormous short squeeze and the price would skyrocket--not what an acquiring company wants to have happen. This is probably why nobody has made a serious offer for THQ over the last few years. Maybe Brian is trying a sophisticated ploy to eliminate the short interest and set up THQ for an acquirer.
