Tenchusatsu - Gateway evidently got screwed pretty badly after they very publicly dropped AMD then Intel couldn't supply them with parts. Nonetheless, Gateway still won't call an AMD PC a business PC, and they refuse to preload NT. Gateway said some pretty nasty things about AMD when they dropped them, I wouldn't be surprised if a quid pro quo was demanded by AMD to get terms, and Intel OK'd it. My guess is they were told they could rant and rave a bit , but don't cross the "business PC / NT" line.

If you don't think these sorts of things go on, you are being naive. I'm not claiming this is some awful act, just that this is why HP said the things they said.

Intel is desperate to position the Athlon against the Celeron (instead of the PIII) and they'll accept quite a bit of flak as long as the OEMs cooperate in pushing that marketing approach (Celeron / Athlon / K6 = Home, PIII = office). So far, they've had some success, but not enough - and if Intel can't supply volume 850MHZ Coppermines soon, Athlon will become solidly positioned in the business market. Hype and coercion will go only so far - at some point Intel will have to produce or give up a piece of the business market. And AMD keeps raising the bar.
