ASML received its funding help from Philips Electronics

Well, that's a little different from Sematech, don't you think? Sematech was, until very recently, about 50% government protectionist dole. Philips is private industry, with a good business reason to fund ASML--they own a minority stake.

However, I agree with the point that it doesn't really matter where the funding comes from, so long as the stock does well. :p
