Yep, but at least less. See, a lot depends on how the system is constructed. For example, all programs should have automatic sunset provisions, so that legislators are forced to review them, and jump through hoops to renew them, not to shut them down. There should be a revision in the basket of goods through which inflation is calculated, to reflect a truer spending pattern. That would knock off about a percentage point, and save a great deal on COLAs. Congressional budgeting ought to reflect current accounting standards, including distinguishing ordinary consumption from capital expenditures and allowing for depreciation....My favorite would be to make it harder to get registered as a voter, and make registration renewable every 3 years, so that only the most committed and capable will vote.......
