Of course you're correct but it's so much more than a marriage penalty. It's a work hard and get a raise penalty. A study hard and learn a valuable skill penalty. A live frugally and save your money penalty. An invest wisely in the economy penalty. The solution isn't to tinker with the horrific monstrosity called the tax code. The answer is a flat tax or national sales tax. But we can only take what they give us can't we.
