Alex-

X-Box....Saw this at Totalgames site:

>>>The claimed release date is for September 2001 in the US, with release in Europe soon after. Microsoft appear to be going for the jugular as the predicted price for the console could be as low as $149 (appx. œ100, though expect to see it at about œ150 in UK).

Also the royalty system will under-cut Sony's current offer to it's licensees, indeed many have suggested that Microsoft are the only company in a position to blow Sony out of the water in terms of sheer muscle. Bill Gates is not short of a penny or two.

As for the projected spec of the mystery console, MCV's estimates were for a processor speed of up to 1Ghz, which seems a touch excessive, especially if they plan to release the machine at such a low price. 64MB RAM, which is feasible, also full DVD functionality and network compatibility are mandatory to even be in the running.

More interesting is the prediction of a built in Hard Drive, which will be a first for any production console. Though it wasn't mentioned in the MCV article, the graphics system is speculated to be provided by nVidia via their GeForce boards, which are currently taking the PC world by storm.<<
