Dorine - the keynote event is being hosted by IDG, not MSFT. This is an annual event and was not originally supposed to be the Win2K launch - Win2K was supposed to launch at Fall COMDEX. The IDG event was picked when Win2k was re-scheduled.

DELL had a spot at IDG for a long time - originally it was to be Mike Lambert talking about enterprise sales. When the Win2K launch was moved, they substituted MSD for Lambert.

In any event, MSFT does not have much to say about who IDG schedules for keynotes... so MSD's speaker slot should be safe. DELL is walking a delicate line with MSFT due to their close ties to Intel. They will have to push Linux as a good solution for ASPs and web hosting to stay in synch with Intel, and there's not a lot DELL can do to dress that up... as we say here in Texas, that's just putting lipstick on the pig...
