Vitesse penetrates new market; more signs of success (from today's news):

...Compared with high-speed silicon BJT and other Gallium
Arsenide, (GaAs) crosspoint switch ICs, the VSC850 offers lower
power and higher bandwidth," said Barry Sandefur, director of ATM
and datacom switch products at Vitesse. "Getting the same bandwidth
in CMOS would require a multiple, high-pincount device architecture,
requiring more board space and more complex interconnect. The
VSC850 is a more cost-effective, less complex solution."
The VSC850 marks Vitesse's entry into the development of high
bandwidth network switching products for datacom applications and
follows Vitesse's significant success with custom and ASIC switches
for SONET/SDH telecommunications applications...
